Designers for Equality Dec. 31st, 2008 @ 02:26 pm
Check out the newly launched website called Designers for Equality (D.E) In response to prop 8 passing (eliminating gay marriage in California) they are asking their fellow designers within the wedding industry (i.e. wedding planners, wedding designers, bridal dress makers, florists, caterers, photographers, hair and make-up savants, wedding venues, everyone involved with making weddings come true); including all who support us, to come together in solidarity and Boycott all weddings. This also includes the cancellation of wedding magazine subscriptions.

ok, so i have to complain a bit. i wanted to go to a paul mitchell, toniandguy, or aveda institute yknow. got the money and everything, what is this nonsense that there are only small name schools in massachusetts? i would assume since boston is a pretty large area there would be something.

hey so I just found this community and was hoping to find some people to give me a little bit of advice-
I'm currently a florida resident and i'm moving to eastern massachusetts in june. I'm going to be attending cosmetology school as soon as I move. I was curious if you guys would suggest going to the Toni&Guy Hairdressing Academy or Blaine Beauty School. I would have figured Toni&Guy was easily the better choice but the catch is that my commute is over an hour drive each way and I'm not sure if it is worth it when Blaine is fifteen minutes away. I've asked a few people in the industry and they have said I will end up getting more educated through the experience I get after school so I shouldn't worry about where I go as long as I get my license. I'm still a bit iffy so if you could help me out I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks!

Introduction and a question Apr. 26th, 2008 @ 09:02 pm

I am very interested in becoming a hair stylist and would like some advice, if I may. I know that there are a lot of schools out there, but I have a hard time discerning which are respectable and which are scams. I live in the Los Angeles area, so I'm sure there has to be quite a few here. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good, respectable school? I love doing hair and have been coloring my own hair for many years now, including the color in my icon.

Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

I'm new to LJ  and still becoming familiar with the site. Looking forward to reading and meeting all other stylist and colorist in the communities.           Also is anyone going to the Energizing Summit in LA ?  Let me know if you are and if you have been before. I haven't been to either LA or the Summit. It look very exciting.

hey all. I'm new to this community & I have a bunch of questions!
I'm mainly interested in becomming an esthetician. There a few schools in my area mostly brand name (Cinci-Dayton, Ohio). I was wondering if any of you have attended any of these types. There's a Aveda, Paul Mitchell, a Carousel(I dunno if they are nation wide but I do know they are a chain), and a Pivot Point/ Matrix design school. The Aveda & Paul Mitchell are kinda far away but I would make the drive if it is worth it & would help get me a better job. Also I was wondering how much is it for the program at any of these school, i know I could just call & find out lol. Also what can I expect to make as a esthetician? I know it varies b/w states and areas but I really can't even find a ballpark number. and finally.... do you learn things such as microderm abrasion and peels in school? Is that even in the scope of practice for an esthetician? Is there a step up (as in education)?

thanks soo much sorry for all the questions. I already have an associates degree and I'm quitting college for this so I want to make sure to make the right choices.

New stylist  to the community. I love what I do and I can't believe i get paid to do it. It has its days just like everything else but most of the time it's pretty much all i think about.

I'm sorry to post this here, since I'm not a stylist, but I'm not sure where else to look...

I'm a business professional that's looking to do something a little wild with my short blonde bob. I would really love something like hot pink highlights, or something along those lines, but it has to be polished looking. I live in rural illinois and the salons out here don't do much in the way of 'wild' hair, so I want to go in armed with photos of what I want.

The trouble is that I can't seem to find any sites that really HAVE what I want. Everything I find is manic panic insanity that really looks monotone and poorly done. I'm thinking something more finished looking, despite the wild colors.

Can anyone here recommend a good site or even some good photos of alternative hair color? I've been googling forever and looked for other communities on here, but nothing really fits the bill.

If it helps, I wouldn't even mind doing something as crazy as this: http://a196.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/8/l_1e7fdd4b9a64988def9c09aa922a0cb3.jpg if it was done WELL, though I'd probably just pick blonde + 2 colors and stick with that. I am a business executive but we work mainly with musicians, bands and websites and so I can get away with it. :)
